Smoking Two Year Old Baby

A friend showed me this link of a smoking two-year old baby. It was shocking, to say the least. The chubby little boy was smoking like a pro. I can't believe how the parents of this smoking two-year old boy have let this happen. That's really child abuse and if the parents won't do anything to stop this boy from smoking, the government should do something about it. It's scary to think that the boy has damaged his lungs with his smoking at such an incrediblly young age.

PhotoHunt#90 Memorial

Capas National Shrine is one of the three national shrines that memorialized the World War II. The first World War II memorial I have visited was the Corregidor Island while the second one was the Shrine of Valor in Mt. Samat. All three memorials were witnesses to the deaths of thousands of American and Filipino soldiers during the Japanese occupation of the Philippines in World War II.

Prince of Persia

Tonight, I watched Jake Gyllenhaal movie, Prince of Persia. The movie was based on a video game and I must say that I really like the movie. It is action-packed, well-paced with really cool special effects.

Jake Gyllenhaal surprised me once again with his versatility and his propensity to do roles out of the ordinary. He must also have been hitting the gym because he really got ripped muscles and packed abs in the Prince of Persia. His leading lady, British actress Gemma Artenton is quite gorgeous too.

For those who want to check out a movie this weekend, try Prince of Persia. It's really entertaining.

Dancing With the Stars Finale

Nicole Scherzinger and Derek Hough won the Dancing With the Stars Finale!

Am not surprised as I've long admired the lead singer of Pussycat Dolls for her dancing skills.

What made this season's Dancing With the Stars more interesting was that the top three couples were really good and quite competitive. So, kudos to second placer Evan Lysacek and Anna Trebunskaya and third placer Erin Andrews and Maksim Chmerkovskiy. You all made the show quite exciting!

Ruby Tuesday#51 Want A Boat Ride?

This is the boat we used to get across Mt. Pinatubo Crater Lake. The place is really beautiful. There are some parts of the lake that are hot enough to cook an egg. There is a swimming and camping area near the boat and it is said that the water of the crater lake is therapeutic.

Scientists have yet to determined the exact depth of the crater lake as several attempts made were unsuccessful.

Tiring Day

It has been a tiring day for me but I shouldn't complain because my father would've been more tired and anxious. He was admitted early today at the hospital for jejunostomy procedure. Because of his loss of appetite and rapid weight loss, the doctors recommended the jejunostomy procedure.

Source: wikipedia
Jejunostomy refers to an artificial opening into the jejunum. It is performed to allow feeding tube placement. Jejunostomy is an alternative to gastrostomy when the stomach is unsuitable for a feeding tube.

It can be performed either endoscopically, or with formal surgery.

The advantage over a gastrostomy is its low risk of aspiration. Disadvantages include small bowel obstruction, ischemia, and requirement for continuous feeding.

Being hypertensive, my father was under constant monitoring by the hospital staff today. Gone was my plan to take a nap while me and my mother were watching over him at the hospital as almost every 15-30 days, there would be somebody coming in to check on his condition.

His procedure is scheduled tomorrow morning.

I used to play a monthly bowling with my friends and officemates, usually on a Friday. After the game, we'd all have dinner together in some barbecue restaurant before going home.

But things changed, people got busier and our monthly bowling attendees dwindled. Eventually, our monthly bowling sessions stopped. I still miss it sometimes but I miss the camaraderie more.

Grey's Anatomy Season Finale

So, it's already Grey's Anatomy Season Finale for season 6. I really hope that it won't be the last season of Grey's Anatomy. It's just one of the very few TV series that I really like when am in the mood in watching TV. There's been a lot of changes on the said series lately to keep the viewers on their toes.

What attracted me first in watching Grey's Anatomy was Meredith Grey and McDreamy's romance. Then, it was Cristina Yang and Preston Burke's pairing. Later on, I just like Grey's Anatomy as it goes.

Litratong Pinoy#96 Pamilya (Family)

This is part of the family of our Sagada guide. The grandson was giving his grandfather a haircut by the roadside. Years ago, the grandfather might have been the one giving the grandson his haircut but now, the roles have reversed.

A heartwarming scene for me that made me smile because it is a good example of the Filipino strong family ties.

Pilipino:

Waiting Too Long

The past three weeks have been nervewracking, nail biting times for me and my family. My father has not been doing well in his appetite, his energy level has been low and he is losing weight really fast.

He has been to the doctors, from the oncologist to the surgeon then to the gastroenterologist to ENT doctor not to mention the bloodworks and scans. He went through a lot of pokes, pins and needles and he endured it all with much patience that surprised us all.

With all those things he went through, I can really say that waiting feels the longest, the most hurting when you’re the one who does the waiting. I wish that there is a way that waiting for the doctors could be shortened. It’s not only infuriating but also quite tiring especially if you’re not really feeling well.

Imagine, starting to wait at eight o’ clock in the morning at the lobby of the doctor’s clinic. You watched the TV while you wait then you got bored. You then tried reading but you’re starting to get drowsy. You fall asleep and after an hour, it’s almost noon. Your butt is getting numb, you need to get to the comfort room. You want to take a walk but you’re worried that the doctor might come and somebody might take your place in the line.

The doctor’s secretary assured that the doctor would come. He did come but came in when it’s already past lunchtime. Your stomach is already complaining but since the doctor is already in, you decided to wait. You’re number 8 and you were thinking that the doctor might take about 30 minutes to talk to the patient. You’re wrong, he saw his patient at more than an hour each. By then, your head is swimming with hunger.

Finally, at 7 o’clock in the evening, it’s your turn to talk to the doctor. Already, the doctor is tired. You are also tired and hungry but you need to know what’s wrong with you. After almost an hour of consultation with the doctor and paying at least P1000 for the consultation, you went home..drained, swimming with information overload and probably, still as confused as ever.

Another Aquino for Philippine President

It looks like the Philippines is going to have another Aquino for a president. Already, four presidential candidates of the 2010 Philippine election have conceded their defeat in favor of a scion of the democracy icons in the Philippines, Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III.

If only Gibo Teodoro opted to run for the senatorial seat instead of running against his cousin, Noynoy Aquino, I am sure that he could've won as a senator resoundingly.

I wonder if Kris Aquino would make good of her promise that she would live abroad should Noynoy wins.

In the meantime, I do hope that Joseph "Erap" Estrada who is running on second on the presidential race, will now concede his defeat soon and not just wait for the Congress' canvassing results.

Ruby Tuesday#49 2010 Philippine Election Day

Yesterday was the 2010 Philippine Election Day. Eligible voters flocked to their voting precincts to cast their votes and choose the next generation of leaders. There were more people in the voting centers when we got there and if my observation was right, there were voters now than before. Probably, people were more curious about the first ever automated election to happen in the country.

My prayer is that people voted wisely and without fear from any man. Our votes today will decide for the country's future and the next generation.

PhotoHunt#87 Mother

I noticed that whenever a kid gets lost or being seen walking alone unaccompanied, the first question that pops up in people's mind is "Where is your mother?". Somehow, it's a universal feeling that mothers will be always be there for their kids no matter what.

These local boys (as can be seen on the right part of the bridge) were playing on the bridge but I never really minded them as I took pictures with a friend. I was thinking they were used to this bridge more than I do and they won't be having any trouble.

Photobucket

But when I saw this little girl crossing the hanging bridge at the back of our Banaue inn without an adult accompanying her. My first thought was, "Where is your mother, little girl?" I looked around thinking that somebody would go after her but nobody came. The bridge was about a hundred feet high above a steep ground but she was just oblivious of the danger she could be in.

Photobucket

I was momentarily relieved when I saw this lady talking to her as if she was trying to convince her to take her home but then, the little girl continued running across the bridge after their talk. It was only after the little girl passed through the bridge and went up the stairs to the houses that I breathed a sigh of relief.

To all mothers today especially to my mother, thank you so much for everything and HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!

Now that Mayweather defeated Mosley, what’s next? If only Mosley defeated Mayweather, the story of a possible Pacquiao-Mayweather fight could have died down. Or could it?

Nonetheless, it is interesting to note that Pacquiao is now agreeing for a blood and urine test prior the fight. The same tests that he turned down before agreeing to the Pacquiao-Clottey fight which happened last March 2010.

Pacquiao-Mayweather fight will surely be quite an interesting bout as both boxers are touted as the best pound for pound boxers of the world.

Mandatory Pag-IBIG membership for OFWs

It used to be that Pag-IBIG membership for OFWs is voluntary with terms of 5, 10, 15 and 20 years. However, with the new Pag-IBIG Fund Law of 2009, OFWs are now covered mandatorily.

This is really an advantage as it is a common knowledge that a lot of Filipino overseas workers find it difficult to save for their future or old days inspite of working abroad for several years. With the mandatory coverage, our OFWs will have no choice but to save which in the long run could actually help them and their families during times of need.

Under the mandatory coverage, there are various benefits to be had for the Pag-IBIG members. These are:

Savings. Remitted members’ contributions earn dividends, tax-free and government guaranteed. Last year, Pag-IBIG declared a dividend rate of 5%, which is quite high compared to bank interests which barely reach 3% in most cases.

Short Term Loans. These loans are available for active members of at least 24 months to help in their financial needs. Loanable amount is about 60% to 80% of the total contributions inclusive of dividends of the borrower payable in 24 months.

Housing Loan. Members with good standing can avail of home financing loan with an interest rate of as low as 6% to 11.5% payable in 30 years. Maximum loanable amount is P3 million. Housing loans cover the following loan purposes: purchase of foreclosed property, lot purchase, ch
