Litratong Pinoy#109 Manipis (Thin)

I was stunned when I first saw them. I thought, "Are they still eating? They look so thin!" In fairness, they really danced well which was why they were assigned on those pedestals to dance. This was taken during Kadayawan Festival last August 2010.

Outdoor Wednesday#4 Geisha At Gap Farm

The place was always part of our school's field trip ages ago. GAP Farm has always been a part of my childhood days. I've had good memories of it. Its iconic "Land of Promise" sign was still there (what a relief!) and the ancient World War II Japanese Tunnel was still there.

GAP Farm is located at Brgy. Maa, Diversion Road, Davao City.

Here's one of the photos I took on the outdoor photoshoot we did this past Sunday at GAP Farm. Diane, our model, dressed up in kimono and really looked pretty while holding her umbrella.

Ruby Tuesday#67 Pretty Red Riding Hood

I went on a photoshoot at GAP Farm last Sunday. The day's weather started nice and sunny but overcast skies rapidly took over and a slight drizzle even threatened our photoshoot. It was a good thing that we were able to do some photos of this model before the drizzle stopped us for a few minutes.

I called the model as Miss Pretty Red Riding Hood. She even carried a small basket covered with a red cloth:)

Sunday Stealing#64 The I've Been Tagged Meme

Today we ripped this meme of a blogger known as Kara at The Ramblings of a Marine Wife. We actually found the meme from Shius from the blog Addicted 2 Shius. Since this is a meme that has been going around for a while where you answer questions, and then add questions, we decided to use three sets. Kara explained that she was tagged by Life with the Lebedas. But it was probably stolen there as well. So, of course, that will be as far as we go. Tracing back our theft's thieves might take some time. Link back to us at Sunday Stealing!

PhotoHunt#107 Natural

The Philippine eagle's natural habitat is rapidly dwindling. No thanks to man, their number decreased all through the years that they are now considered critically endangered.

The Philippine eagle is considered one of the largest and most powerful eagles in the world. I have seen up close two of them during their feeding time and they can be really impressive but also quite intimidating at the same time.

The Philippine Eagle Center is home to these endangered Philippine eagles. A private, non-stock, non-profit organization, it exists mainly for the conservation not only of the Philippine eagle but also of other raptors in the Philippines and their natural habitat. To help sustain and defray their expenses, the Philippine Eagle Center accepts donations. Go here for more details.

Itchy Travel Feet

Am feeling the itch on my feet again. Not the athlete’s foot kind. But the kind that usually creates a hole in the pocket but usually the kind that always made me wonder about the world and always, made me feel so blessed.

The past months have been difficult for me, to say the least. Depression and loneliness would sometimes come in snatches. The issues at work didn’t help me anything and instead, added to my worries. Thank goodness for prayers, almost daily gym trips and keeping myself busy, I am coping. Yet, my itchy travel feet beckons.

Charice Pempengco Kicked Ass On Glee

Charice Pempengco's first appearance on Glee was impressive. Filipinos all over the world waited for the appearance excitedly and the girl didn't disappoint. She sang Beyonce's Listen from the movie, Dreamgirls.

Hwangbo Hye Jung: Getting Popular Internationally

Since watching the Ssangchu couple (Kim Hyun Joong and Hwangbo Hye Jung) in the South Korean reality show, We Got Married, last year, I have taken some interest on how the couple did after the show. Both have done really well, most specially Kim Hyun Joong who became more popular.

On the other hand, Hwangbo as she is popularly known, continued with her freelance work as commercial model, emcee, singer and philanthropist. She recently finished a fan meet with her Thai fans and she also did some charitable activities while there in Thailand. She was rumored to do more fan meets in other Asian countries some day. I do hope she’ll have another TV drama sometime soon like what Kim Hyun Joong in Playful Kiss is doing right now.

Of the two, I like Hwangbo more. Pretty but well-grounded, funny and silly but with a good head on her shoulder, I find her quite a positive model for women, old and alike.

Outdoor Wednesday#3 Walkway At Philippine Eagle Center

Walkways can be found inside the Philippine Eagle Center to facilitate the tours. There were names on the cement slabs of the walkway. Curious, I asked the tour guide about it. We were told that for a fee (at least P300), people can donate to the Philippine Eagle Center to help defray the upkeep and maintenance of the center. The amount they collect also helps in funding the research and breeding programs of the center for the eagles.

There Are More Funerals

Today, is my father's 40th day of death. I miss his presence. I pray that he is happy and at peace wherever he is now.

Nowadays, am feeling my age. Maybe even more. Slowly, gone are the days that I attend to a lot of baptismal/christening parties. Bridal shower parties and wedding receptions are even getting rarer. In fact, am attending more funerals now than I've ever did before. Funerals of people I know, people I care about.

Always, their deaths are painful reminders that we eventually lose people we care about through death, that life is too short and there's always an end. No matter how we try to control some things in our lives, there are things that we cannot control, one of which is death. To be frank, I get more scared now with the thought of death. Scared than I might lose the ones I love earlier than I expected and scared that I might have some things to regret. I can only pray, do better and do more hoping.

Sunday Stealing#63 The Threesome Meme

Today we ripped this meme from three people! The first eight questions were ripped from a blogger and blog called Foxymoron. She explains that she stole it from The Harridan. The second part of this meme was written by some blog buddies of ours since WTIT: The Blog first published in '06. Mr Lance from Solitary Views and Frank from Foxxfyrrer's Honk 'n' Holl'r! They decided to do a “two blogs meme” by asking each other 5 questions each. One question they actually never even asked! It was because Frank's mom reads his blog and apparently the question was a bit racy. (See the post by clicking here. It's full of funny schtick.) We left one question out since it was really asked twice. Link back to us at Sunday Stealing!

I would love to attend a proper photography school someday. In the meantime, I had one basic photography class last month. Happy Birthday!

Today is the birthday of a very good friend of mine. Somebody who has been a part of my life for years now. We've had our ups and downs, hopes and dreams, disappointments and joys throughout the years. We may be more apart than together but I always wish my bestfriend the best of everything. I always wish that God is always there for my friend. I may not say it all the time but my bestfriend made my life happier and more meaningful.

Happy, happy birthday! May God bless you always!

Rainy Season Is Here

The other day, the weather bureau announced that for the remaining days this month, there will be four more typhoons that will pass through the country. With the typhoons, more rainy days are to be expected. This week alone, we had rains on a daily basis.

Rainwaters may feed our earth but it also can become an inconvenience or can even be fatal to anyone. Floodings in some countries worldwide have caused a lot of fatalities. US Open Men’s Final was postponed for another day the other day because of the rains. (Thankfully, Nadal won over Djokovic.) The taxi driver I had yesterday was complaining about his car seats getting wet on the rainwater although I wonder why he had not installed rain guards to prevent that.

With the rainy days in mind, my mother has already hired somebody to do some house repairs for the rainy days. We cannot be too complacent as we have had some scary experiences from it. One particular incident comes to mind which happened years ago.

It rained continuously that day. It started on a late afternoon and continued well into the evening. We went to bed with the rains still pounding down our roofs. Sometime at around 2am, I woke up feeling cold. I heard a squishing noise and saw something floating in the dark. When I tried to step out of the bed to feel for my slippers, I hit water. Water that reached up to my knees and was about to reach the top of my bed. I shouted for my parents and brother. They woke up and was shocked to find the rising water. We scrambled to save some of our possessions and climbed up the doubledecked bed of my brother. We prayed for the waters to stop rising and sleep became elusive for all of us. Thankfully, the water did stop.

Anyway, I always have with me an umbrella in my bag nowadays. The weathers seem too erratic to expect a full dry day. I wonder if a cousin already bought the wind deflectors he had been planning to buy. It will be a good investment for him.

It's Clijsters As US Open 2010 Champion

Am not much of a fan of Kim Clijsters. Probably, because am a big fan of the Williams sisters. But this USA Open season, Clijsters proved once again that she got the balls of a champion even after retiring to start a family. To Kim, congratulations!

I do hope I can watch the US Open finals. I'll be on an overnight meeting and I'm worried I won't be able to see it. I wonder if there's some sort of US Open live streaming at the venue though. I might be able to take a peek.

It used to be just an anniversary celebration of the indigenous tribes' harvest season. Rain Concert In SM MOA

The other day, South Korean superstar Rain (Jung Ji Hoon) caused quite a disappointment to his Philippine fans for his non-appearance from a press conference. Rain is going to have a concert entitled "Intensity" this coming September 11 at SM Mall of Asia. He'll be with the South Korean K-Pop boy band U-Kiss.

I wish I can see this one. Not for Rain's singing but because of his dancing. He can dance up a storm! Rain is also shooting some scenes for his international movie, Fugitive here in the Philippines.

I can be really clueless on things that are techie but when I learned from our computer technician that I can have wifi at home, my antenna went up immediately.

My nieces are starting to compete with my computer use due to their school assignments. While one is quite interested in doing the Facebook or even Friendster, both have been bugging me about their school assignments. So, the wifi connection at home is a solution. I actually thought it'll be an expensive gadget to buy but when I was told that it will just cost me below P2000, I got interested.

TP-Link was highly recommended by our computer technician and our system administrator. The TP-Link I bought was the TL-WR740N model. A combined wired/wireless network connection with 4-port switch with performance speed up to 150mbps. It was easy to install and its performance? It's doing good! Now, I won't have to wait for my nieces to finish up their assignments on computer before I can check my Facebook.
