Alternative Power Source

Some countries in the world have started looking for alternative ways to get their power source due to the increasing gas prices. Wind power is one of alternative power source that is gaining popularity. Philippines has their own wind power source in Ilocos Norte and Batanes plus there are more sites that are being planned. Do you think this alternative source of power is feasible? Check the below conversation.

US Presidential Election

US presidential election is really getting interesting, what with the twists and turns that keep happening in the presidential campaign. It somehow got me checking it out from time to time. For sure, the one who will get the plum role will have a lot in his hands considering that US is experiencing huge economy problems. For the Americans, the right president for them should be the one who can stir them out of their economic and financial trouble. The international community is closely watching. How about you? Here’s a dNeero conversation that you might like to check out and participate.

Yabang Pinoy

I am posting this funny but right to the point video. Inspite of the guy’s “emo” proclamation, he’s right that those things he mentioned cannot be easily found anywhere in the world but in the Philippines. And yes, when you’re out there far away from Pinas, you miss them terribly from time to time. I know, I had that feeling and there was no escaping it.

David Letterman Felt Like An Ugly Date

Obviously, Letterman felt peeved upon learning that Senator John McCain did not immediately go to Washington to attend the bailout plan meeting but instead he went to get interviewed by Kathie Couric of the other TV station. The presidential candidate was supposed to be the guest that same night but instead called Letterman to postpone his appearance with the alibi of going to the Washington immediately.

Just wondering how could Senator McCain did it if he has a prior agreement with Letterman. Whosoever on the same shoes of Letterman would actually get disappointed at the very least, or as Letterman said, he felt like an ugly date.

Here’s David Letterman’s riff on Senator John McCain due to the latter’s non-appearance on his show:

Further, as McCain would rather postpone his debate with Obama today, there is doubt when they will be having their first debate in the future. I sure hope the debate will push through soonest as I think it will be going to be very interesting.

Litratong Pinoy#19 Black and White (Itim at Puti)

Translation:
My dear friend in Columbia, South Carolina, USA, took these last year. We went around the city and took pictures. The first picture is the State House of South Carolina and the second picture was taken along Gervais Street. He thought that he would like to try taking pictures in black and white for a different effect and they came out quiet good.

Hanging Upside Down David Blaine

David Blaine is currently hanging upside down over Wollman Rink of New York City’s Central Park. His stunt is called Dive of Death and will last for 60 hours while hanging upside at 5 storey high.

Doctors of the famous illusionist have advised against the said stunt that could get him blind and/or could cause brain swelling plus other unknown long-term effects. The craziness or rather, the spectacle will conclude on primetime television special which will air on ABC this Wednesday. Read more here.

I wish David Blaine a lot of luck and I do hope his stunt will feed the hungry of the world (duh!)

94 days before Christmas and the First day of Fall 2008

We are starting to have some Christmas whiff of air nowadays. We have more cold winds and overcast skies during days and even colder nights. Christmas season always gets me nostalgic amidst colorful, noisy albeit expensive celebration. It is because within a few days from Christmas, the New Year will come and it’s another year to face. Nevertheless, I have resolved that I will enjoy the Christmas season as much as I can.

In the US, it’s the first day of fall 2008 or what is known as autumnal equinox. On this day, both the day and the night have the same length and is a cause for celebration in pagan belief. For me, I find autumn beautiful as the leaves of the trees start to change their colors. It is always quite awesome to see trees with different colors from green to yellow to orange to brown. And always, I cannot help but be reminded and believe that God has awesome powers.

Obama Might Lose Presidency

I cannot believe this. Recent research poll shows that Obama could lose his bid for Presidency due to his race especially if the election is close.

Source: Yahoo News

Deep-seated racial misgivings could cost Barack Obama the White House if the election is close, according to an AP-Yahoo News poll that found one-third of white Democrats harbor negative views toward blacks – many calling them “lazy”, “violent” people in their midst.

I have been curious about Obama’s journey from a mere senator to a presidential candidate. While I have not been following the US elections closely, I still favor Obama as the probable next US President due to his promise of change.

A cousin have been telling me proudly that racial discrimination in the US is starting to get eliminated due to massive information as well as the support of legislative laws that encourage race equality. However, reading the news about the abovementioned poll, this somehow contradicts with the nation’s supposedly thrust to minimize racial discrimination and to encourage racial equality. It is as if that only the blacks have the “lazy” or “violent” people in their midst. It is as if the whites or other colors do not have those kinds of people. Sounds like too childish way of thinking, huh!

Would it be better if people judge not their president for their color but to what they can do? Aren’t people more educated, more informed, more aware, more involved to distinguish that there is more to color than meets the eye?

Now, am more curious as to the outcome of the coming US elections.

Incidentally, there are unconfirmed news of one of Obama’s staunchest ally being dead. Oprah Winfrey was supposedly found dead in her home yesterday. However, this seems to be more hoax than truth.

Film Documentary on Arnel Pineda and Journey

Unless you are a Pinoy living under the rock since a few months back, you would know who Arnel Pineda is. He is the current vocalist of the internationally renowned American rock band, Journey. Arnel Pineda’s Cinderella-like rise to international stardom came via youtube. Prior to that, he has had successful stints singing vocals with different Philippine bands, had shows abroad and had albums.

I was reading the Philippine Inquirer today and read that Arnel Pineda and his American band, Journey, are in collaboration for a film documentary with another talented Filipino, award-winning director Ramona Diaz.

The documentary will highlight the group’s journey with its new vocalist, Arnel Pineda, as they travel, rehearse, prepare, perform, and interact with each other and with others.

I have seen the work of Ramona Diaz through her documentary, Imelda, and it was quite interesting and compelling to see. It even showed a side of Imelda that not a lot of people knew even if she was one of the more popular Philippine political figures for several decades now. So, for sure, Ms. Diaz will do a very good job for the Arnel Pineda and Journey documentary.

Personally, I have always liked Journey and their songs since I was in high school (ahem! That reveals my age somehow.) but now, I like the band more because our own Arnel Pineda is their vocalist. He sure deserves all the attention as he is really a very good singer and performer (yeah..yeah..I’m one of those who sat bleary-eyed through their youtube videos). In fact, I have been drooling over their CD for weeks now and just bidding time to buy one. Well, actually, I have been bidding my time because I want to buy the US version of the CD album as it includes a DVD of their performance, which the Philippine CD version does not have.

The said film documentary will be released sometime next year and you know what, there are plans for an Asian tour next year for Journey and am crossing my fingers that Philippines could be one of the likely destination. Woohooo!By the way, the film documentary is tentatively entitled "Don't Stop Believin': Everyman's Journey". And now, I wait anxiously…

Litratong Pinoy#18: Ginto(Gold)

Translation: The Chinese likes the color of gold because it symbolizes wealth. That is why, it is not surprising to see it everywhere when New Year’s Day is getting near. This picture was taken in Harbour City, Hongkong.

Race Against Time

…is what Hurricane Ike rescuers are trying to do right now. With thousands of Americans stranded in their homes inundated by floods brought by Hurricane Ike, the rescuers’ job will not be easy. The stranded Americans who did not heed the order to evacuate are estimated to be 140,000 in numbers. Without power and water supply, I shudder with the thought of people and even animals being stranded out there.

For sure, a lot of them thought that the hurricane will not do much damage and they would be able to ride out the huge storm but their thoughts were wrong.

And for those who were not actually affected by the storm, Ike’s aftershock effect can still be felt too. I chatted with my friend in South Columbia just this afternoon and the gas prices surge up to $5 a gallon. Woah!

With people stacking up on fuel for fear of shortage and gasoline infrastructure getting destroyed by the storm, fuel production was affected and subsequently, gas prices shot up. Hopefully, this is just temporary. Meantime, better take out the bikes and start biking to get around to save on gas. My friend’s doing it now.

Travel on Personal Loans

Am looking for Personal Loans to finance my China travel this year. Yes, I am saving for the trip but with the current trend of living expenses and sudden turn of events in my blogging career, I don’t think I can save enough before the said trip. I would prefer the Unsecured Personal loans though as it has less hassle, and better yet if there will be no application fees, no hidden charges, and no collateral needed. I will be enjoying my China travel for sure if I can have that.

Oh, I will be posting next time the pictures we did during our first China mainland travel a few years back. It was a dream come true for me to step foot in the Great Wall of China, Tiananmen Square, and the Forbidden Kingdom.

Wait for Nuffnang No More!

After so much anticipation, Nuffnang is now here in the Philippines. Wooohoo! For the uninitiated, Nuffnang is the first Asian blog advertising company that has grown leaps and bounds from its 2007 start. It is now handling major advertising for big and well-known brands and has a growing stable of 40,000 bloggers from both Malaysia and Singapore; now that it is here in the Philippines, the numbers will surely rise.

I have heard and seen Nuffnang ads for some months now and was quite impressed with their system. I have been checking them out and was hoping that they would come to the country soon. So, when I heard about it last week, I heaved a sigh of relief, finally! But Nuffnang Philippines has some surprises up its sleeve for their initial launching. They want 68 reviews and they are going to pay P500 for it. How about that? It’s just so easy to join. Just sign-up (whisper: I already did), but before doing so, make sure that you are not connected with any local ad network, post about what you like about Nuffnang, post the ad unit (just copy and paste in your blog) and send the link of your post to their email address
nuffnang68@gmail.com. You can check here for more details.

As for me, aside from getting to be a member of the elite (ahem!) group by being a Nuffnanger, I like it that Nuffnang has the blog analytics tool that will help bloggers take stock on how their blogs are doing. Having this tool can help bloggers decide on what steps or actions to improve or sustain their blogs. Improving our blogs can help gain more traffic and more traffic can mean more income. So, what are you waiting for, blogger? Go, get signed-up here.

Litratong Pinoy#17 Silver (Pilak)

Translation: These pictures were taken inside the San Francisco International Airport, America last year. The effect of so many lights around the place made it look amazingly silver. Of course, I could not resist taking pictures even more so that there were just a handful of people around since it was still dawn when I did the picture-taking.

My First Digiscrap

This is the result of my first foray in digiscrapping and I really like it. Of course, the expected nosebleeding episodes caused by trying to understand the works were always there but I am mighty proud of myself. LOL! The pictures were taken last year during my San Francisco, USA trip.

Kadayawan’s Indak-indak sa Kadalanan 2008

These pictures were taken last August 24, 2008 during the Indak-indak sa Kadalanan 2008. It was scorching hot that day and the sun merciless that it could actually burn your skin but the participants danced with so much enthusiasm, they more than made up getting all fried out in the heat of the day. Am really proud of them. Kudos to all of you!

Crimes from Addiction

I have read about this post about how more violent crimes could likely be committed more by people who are suffering from addiction of some sort like alcohol, drugs, meth, substance and more while on the other hand, people who are addicted to just marijuana will just more likely commit lesser violent crimes. This post has made me recall something that happened while at work some months ago.

One day, an officemate who was looking out of our office glass windows saw teen-agers at the back of our office building. The back of our office building is usually deserted and is really not the place for people to hangout on, so he looked closely. He saw one or two kids smoking and dancing and shouting but looking dazed; one of them was holding a big bottle of what look like to be a brandy. He called some of us his officemates and we confirmed his suspicion that indeed the kid was holding an alcohol bottle and he is sharing it with the others. Somebody immediately called 911 to prevent more alcohol crimes and the police apprehended the teenagers. Later on, we confirmed that the kids were all high school students in the nearby high school who cut their classes to smoke marijuana and they were really drinking brandy.

It was really sad to know that young people can do such things as they are really bad decisions and they can influence their actions and thoughts. Some can get addicted to these things and could commit drug crimes. I remember a college classmate told me that he got addicted to marijuana so much in high school and got caught by his parents. He did not know what was happening to him but he committed a marijuana crime by stealing from his parents . His parents were forced to place him in a rehabilitation place. Thankfully, he got cleaned up and is now a successful businessman.

Litratong Pinoy# 16 Tanso (Copper)

Translation:
Through the kindness of my relatives I was able to see a lot of places in the United States the first time I got there. One of the places we have visited is the Alamo in San Antonio, Texas.

The Alamo is a historical place. It was once a part of Mexico but was taken by the United States. The Battle of Alamo became bloody and historical when Gov. Sta. Ana of Mexico tried to reclaim it, a lot of people died in the battle.

I got this first pressed penny right inside the Alamo. It was given by my aunt as a souvenir.

The second copper is also a pressed penny which was given by somebody close to me. We went sightseeing in Charleston, South Carolina. It was such a beautiful day and we have seen a lot of the place. Charleston is quite beautiful and historical and it is one of the places in the United States that I really like a lot. I hope I can return to it again. I will also try to start collecting pressed pennies from wherever place I can visit.

Where Are My Durians?

Yesterday, Sunday morning, after having our tennis session, Anne and me went to the SM Davao Agro Fair. We checked out their orchids and other ornamental plants on display and for sale (I will post some pictures here later). When we saw a durian stall, we hurriedly get to it, intent on eating some durian. Imagine our surprise to hear that the Arancillo variety costs P70 per kilo! What??! It can’t be. It is still harvest season for durian, it should be somewhere P40-50 only. The storeowner apologized and said that the harvest for this year is quite low and slow(which I cannot refute as usually fruits can be found in every streets in our city but nowadays, you can only find some trickle). So, off we go, giving up buying durian and with the hope that the harvest gets to improve before this year ends.

La.Pi.S#7 Creamy

This is SugarMunch Bakeshop’s Brazo de Mercedes. Creamy, fluffy, sweet and yummy. It was supposed to be eaten as dessert for our lunch during one of our site inspections but it looked too yummy that we ate half of it while we were inside our office vehicle.

Here's another creamy entry..
