Litratong Pinoy#11 Dalampasigan (Beach)

Translation: It was said that if we add up all together the shores in the Philippines, it will be longer than the whole shores of the United States. Not surprisingly so, as we have about 7,107 known islands and of course, each one of them has their own shape and personality or characteristics.

Mula Luzon...
Translation: From Luzon...
Dalampasigan ng Nakabuang, Batanes
Batanes' Nakabuang Beach

Dalampasigan ng Sabtan, Batanes na may bahay-ilawan
Batanes' Sabtang Beach lighthouse

Sa Bisayas (Visayas)

Takipsilim sa Panglao Beach, Bohol
(Sunset in Panglao Beach, Bohol)
Dalampasigan ng Isla ng Balicasag, Bohol
Balicasag Island beach, Bohol

Hanggang sa Mindanaw..
Up to Mindanao...
Magpopongko Lagoon by the beach in Pilar, Siargao

Translation: Times Beach, Ecoland, Davao City is one of the city's favorite hang-out.

La.Pi.S.#4 Soup (Sabaw)

Have you heard of shabu-shabu? The best shabu-shabu I have tasted so far was in a China restaurant while we were on a trip some years ago.

Shabu-shabu is a Japanese variant of hot pot soup or broth. The dish is prepared by submerging a very thin slice of meat of piece of vegetable in a pot boiling water or both and swishing it back and forth several times. The familiar swishing sounds is where the dish gets its name. Shabu-shabu roughly translates to “swish-swish”. Thank you, Wikipedia.

Anyway, here’re the ingredients…

And the finish product…
Here’s another heartwarming soup entry..

South African Adventures

I have always wanted to try the South Africa Adventures after hearing stories from an officemate years ago. She went into a South African package group tour and afterwards, showed us a lot of pictures that I found quite amazing.

Also, the South Africa Accommodation that she had with her tour group was something to remember and she could not stop talking about her South African trip for weeks. She even recommended to our guys who do mountain biking to try the Mountain Biking South Africa that guarantees adventures of a lifetime. As for me, I want to try the African safaris to see those wild animals in their natural habitats.

Litratong Pinoy#10 Sa Gawing Kanluran

Sa gawing kanluran andaming mga nakakapanibagong bagay….
Translation: Somewhere West, there are a lot of different things…

gaya ng mga kakaibang sasakyan,
Translation: like different-looking vehicles,

Translation: strange animals; and bigger food portions that it seems nobody is starving

Translation: There are taller, bigger and beautiful buildings in different shapes and designs as can be seen in Embarcadero, San Francisco, California. They can even be easily seen if you get into the San Francisco Bay boat cruise. Alcatraz island can also be seen in San Francisco Bay; the island was used as jailhouse island for well-known criminals long ago.

Translation: Of course, the world-renowned Golden Gate of San Francisco can never be far behind.

Translation: Let’s just say that there are so many things to see and do in the West, but nothing beats mother country, the Philippines. Because, I am Pinoy!

7 facts about me

This tag came from Sheng. Thank you so much, girl...

Here are the rules:

A. List these rules on your blog.
B. Share 7 facts about yourself on your blog.
C. Tag 7 people at the end of your post by leaving their names as well as links to their blogs.
You’ll have to read on for my 7 facts and see who I tagged. Read on…( i know this is not enough to enumerate me..)

  1. A lot of my relatives thought I would not graduate from college because I was more into rallies and demonstrations than being serious with my studies at that time.
  2. When I was a kid and would get into kid fights, I used to do fistfights more than pulling hairs as what was expected of girls.
  3. I love cats as well as dogs. My old friends used to call me Miming or Pusa because I have this habit of “meowing out” each time I see cat/s nearby.
  4. My favorite place in the Philippines (aside from home) is Palawan and I dearly wish that it will remain as pristine and as quiet as ever.
  5. I used to love to really dance even by myself LOL! (baliw?) and for a time, went to dance halls and disco houses (with my friends who had the same addiction) to find new dance steps and even dared to dance with the “dancers”. Those were the good times and now, I get dizzy trying to do those steps again hahahaha! Sign of old age, huh.
  6. I have always thought am not intelligent enough and not even pretty; that is why, I never stop learning new things and consider myself as a lifelong learner.
  7. I do not get easily impressed with somebody (no matter how shiny the credentials are) as I am more into attitude and how a person go about his/her dealings with the people around him/her.

I would like to know more about: Alf, Bulak and Rainel, Pepe, Qay, and Kat.

Interactive maps for easy access of information

A lot of people have less sense of direction or for some, none at all. This I have discovered when I started traveling more; it is usually evident each time I travel with my friends when we would have to stop to ask for some directions. For some people, north becomes south or south becomes east or anywhere. We initially just took this assistance wholeheartedly but because of a lot of inconveniences and funny bloopers we have encountered, we decided to take along additional assistance by bringing our own maps and researching more about our destination prior to the actual travel dates. Thankfully, we have minimized those incidents of going in the middle of nowhere and we were able to have more fun in our travels.

A few months ago, my friends and I were talking about putting up a map for the group to see where and when we have already gone as well as show the places where we would like to go in the future. It was discussed over pizza and a whole lot of laughter reminiscing funny situations we have encountered and altogether memorable adventures we had on our travels.

The thought came about again to me when I came across this Interactive flash map. The map is an innovation in itself as it is fully-clickable and it can be linked to any information data. Thus, information accessibility is fast and seamless. This is quite perfect for our planned travel map.

Additionally, the Interactive flash map can also be used in more ways other than our travel map. It is quite perfect in any type of presentation such as websites, business market presentations and more as it can be fully and easily customized to suit the user’s specific requirements.

I have seen websites using Interactive flash map and their presentation is quite viewer-friendly. Interaction and navigation for website viewers or customers are quite seamless and easy; thus, information needed can easily be conveyed and accessed.

La.Pi.S# 3 Soft (Malambot)

This week’s theme is soft (malambot). I have been frequenting Chowking for their halo-halo nowadays, courtesy of free halo-halo from my credit card hehehehe! I just love Chowking's soft and hot siopao (although it is getting to be more expensive than the ones I find in other restaurants). There is my siopao waiting hot and soft while my halo-halo is ready to get devoured.

Oh, check out by other entry.

Litratong Pinoy #9 Luntian

Apo. Luntian ang kapaligiran at napaka-grandioso tingnan. Bakit hindi subukang akyatin si Apo? Tatlong araw lang at makakauwi ka na. Walang katulad pa ang makikita sa tuktok.

Translation:

This was taken in Camp Sabros, Kapatagan, Digos City, Davao del Sur. It is said to be one of the longest ziplines in the country at 360 feet long and 180 feet in height (it has a newer and second zipline which is longer). It was already featured in different TV programs and has already been visited by well-known personalities/celebrities. One thing is for sure while riding the zipline and cable car, we all have the same thought, “Eeeeeeeeek! I’ll fall into those green trees! Mother! It ain’t low! Oh! I am going to kiss the pine tree!” Never mind though, as long as I was able to fly like Darna or Superman for even just in 40 seconds.

By the way, Mt. Apo, the grandfather of the Philippine mountains is quite visible along the road going to the camp if he is “in the mood” and not hiding behind clouds. Why not try climbing Mt. Apo? It can be done in three days and the view at the peak is quite spectacular.

My California vacation and car insurances

I went for a week-long vacation in California late last year and have enjoyed my stay there. Our hosts were very gracious and accommodating to us that made our trip really memorable and enjoyable. Our trip was not the “get up very early in the morning and let us always hurry” kind of vacation but it was so laid back, it actually made me feel really at home and well-rested.

Our hosts were telling us that most Californians prefer to rent a house than buy one due to very high mortgage prices around the state. Like most Americans, having a car is more important than having a house; however, it is also important that the car has good insurance coverage. For our hosts who love to drive around and see places, they prefer having their cars insured with a progressive car insurance company as it is indicative that the company is secure. I have to agree with their wise decision.

Next post..my California vacation photos!

La.Pis.S#2 Sour (Maasim)

Green mango. Sour, crunchy, juicy and delicious especially if it goes with a sautéed fish paste dip. If there is none, I make do with soy sauce mixed in with a bit sugar. Always guaranteed to make me drool anytime.

Green mangoes with sautéed fish paste always remind me of my high school days when ambulant vendors wait outside our school gates. Young green mangoes were then sliced thinly and sold in small portions wrapped in plastic. Walking on our way home from school, we always had them in our hands; talking and joking while crunching away on our mangoes. They can be a bit stinky but it was really good.

Here's another good-tasting, soury entry.

Litratong Pinoy #8 Balingkinitan

Siguradong magiging mukha siyang katawa-tawa.

Translation: Do you know the David that was done by the famous sculptor Michaelangelo? The sculptured David is the young biblical King David of Israel while he was preparing for his fight against Goliath. Through the years, many people copied the sculpture and one of these is located in Davao City. It stands by the beach and has become one of the favorite hangout places by a lot of people.

As can be seen, David looks slim without bulging tummy. How will it be if he was done with big belly? For sure, he would look funny.

You don’t have to look old because of your eyewear

It is funny how people can be conscious about their looks, finding ways and means to look younger than their real age. I have been teasing an officemate of her habit of squinting her eyes trying to read our documents at work. She should have been wearing her eyeglasses but would rather do it when she is already having headaches for squinting too much. She said that eyewears make her look older so she would rather squint than always wear one. I teased her that too much squinting will create more wrinkles on her face, that should make her look older than wearing her eyeglasses always.tracking image:

Eyewears need not make one look old and out of fashion. I found quite stylish eyewears from zennioptical.com and mind you, they have good prices to offer from their wide range of eyewears. They manufacture their own frames which made their eyewears cheaper compared to others. Ordering is easy too as it can be done online.

Squinting officemate saw one that she really liked and was surprised to see a wide variety of eyeglass and frame types and styles.

Litratong Pinoy#7 Tatak Pinoy

Translation: This is the House of Dakay, oldest house in Batan, Batanes which was built in the 1870s. It is already included in the list of UNESCO Heritage sites. The occupant is an Ivatan lady already in her 90s.

Translation:

Batanes..part of the Philippines but seems separated from the whole country because it is farther and harder to reach by many. It is nearer to Taiwan than the main Philippine island of Luzon. The place lies in the typhoon path and that is why their houses were usually made of 50 tons of limestone, reed and cogon to protect its occupants inside. One house is usually done by the whole community’s cooperation which is locally called “payuhman”.

Ivatan is the name of the people from Batanes. I consider them as good example of what a Pinoy is for their strength and endurance in facing whatever situation there is and however tough the times are. Because of the place being mountainous, the Ivatans learned to strive and persevere, nurture and cultivate whatever they have and their surroundings. In Batanes, you can still see people helping each other (bayanihan) each time there is a house to build, and their sharing of the communal pastureland called “payaman” or more popularly known by tourists as “Marlboro Country”.

For me, we should be proud and should love Batanes and the Ivatans for they have not lost the embodiment of the real Pinoy.
