Annual Physical Examination
It is time for our annual physical examination once again. As usual, we are going to have our urinalysis, fecalysis, complete blood count, chest x-ray and ECG. After the said laboratory tests, we are scheduled for consultations with an accredited doctor.
The annual physical examination is something that I do not look forward to but it is something necessary especially now that I am getting older. Like most people, I do not have much patience waiting at the clinic lobby for my turn to get pierced and poked upon by the medical personnel. Thankfully, the magazines available for reading and listening to the small talks made by the laboratory people somehow helped me get through the boredom of waiting.
I have always been interested in reading about the human body. Perhaps because I used to dream of becoming a doctor until financial constraints squashed that dream dead. Still, the fascination with the human body remained with me through the years, more so now after the recent death of my father due to cancer.
Here are some fascinating facts about the human body:

The Heart Run
The registration has already been paid. The race singlet is waiting to be worn for tomorrow's Heart Run but the wearer is still having second thoughts. It will only be a 3 kilometer run/walk but because I'm not at my usual self (runny nose, sneezing, slight fever and lethargic), my foremost thought right now is how can I wake at dawn, drag myself out of the bed and make it to the meeting place, the People's Park. A lot of my officemates and some friends will be doing it but unlike them, I will only be doing the run just to challenge myself. Not with this runny nose and sneezing maniac though.
Well, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for this run. Fighting!

The 40-K Run
I finished what I set out to run for. I am done with our gym's 40 kilometer run challenge yesterday. It was supposed to be done within August 1-6 but I decided to just do it in 4 days. Surprisingly, while I was feeling tired and sleepy on my last day of run, I shortened by time. I couldn't sleep the night before so I was worried that I wouldn't be able to finish the last 10 kilometers. Thank goodness I finished the remaining 10 kilometers in one hour and a half even if all I wanted to do was lie down and snore while I was doing the run lol! So, for two hours on a kilometer run on my last day, I reduced my time by half an hour. Pat, pat on my back. Good job, girl. You're not lazy, after all...
So, now I was able to prove myself that I could actually participate with all these weekend runs although I'd rather play tennis or do some photoshoots on my weekend than run.

Pulmonary Embolism On Serena Williams?
Pulmonary embolism in a world-class athlete like Serena Williams is so unbelievable that I thought the news about it went all wrong, but it really happened. Doctors always say that sedentary people have more chances to get it so if this has happened to Serena Williams who is a top athlete, what are the chances of people whose form of exercise is to walk a few steps from the TV to the refrigerator or those who'd rather sit it out in front of TV or computer than do a bit of walking for at least 10 minutes everyday.

Waiting Too Long
The past three weeks have been nervewracking, nail biting times for me and my family. My father has not been doing well in his appetite, his energy level has been low and he is losing weight really fast.
He has been to the doctors, from the oncologist to the surgeon then to the gastroenterologist to ENT doctor not to mention the bloodworks and scans. He went through a lot of pokes, pins and needles and he endured it all with much patience that surprised us all.
With all those things he went through, I can really say that waiting feels the longest, the most hurting when you’re the one who does the waiting. I wish that there is a way that waiting for the doctors could be shortened. It’s not only infuriating but also quite tiring especially if you’re not really feeling well.
Imagine, starting to wait at eight o’ clock in the morning at the lobby of the doctor’s clinic. You watched the TV while you wait then you got bored. You then tried reading but you’re starting to get drowsy. You fall asleep and after an hour, it’s almost noon. Your butt is getting numb, you need to get to the comfort room. You want to take a walk but you’re worried that the doctor might come and somebody might take your place in the line.
The doctor’s secretary assured that the doctor would come. He did come but came in when it’s already past lunchtime. Your stomach is already complaining but since the doctor is already in, you decided to wait. You’re number 8 and you were thinking that the doctor might take about 30 minutes to talk to the patient. You’re wrong, he saw his patient at more than an hour each. By then, your head is swimming with hunger.
Finally, at 7 o’clock in the evening, it’s your turn to talk to the doctor. Already, the doctor is tired. You are also tired and hungry but you need to know what’s wrong with you. After almost an hour of consultation with the doctor and paying at least P1000 for the consultation, you went home..drained, swimming with information overload and probably, still as confused as ever.

Back to Running
I am just pleased with myself today
. I ran for about 1.5 kilometer today and it was my 3rd time for this week. It was a modest comeback but I am happy with my achievement considering that I have a love-hate relationship with running/jogging. Yes, running is part of my routine when I do boxing or tennis or some other activities but to do it exclusively, it was hard for me. My target for this week was to do a total of 5-km on weekdays but I feel good today even if I did not reach that target.
I was quite an active child and I preferred running when going from point A to B; but when it comes to running/jogging as a sports or discipline, I would rather do other things. For me back then, running/jogging is like pulling teeth manually by myself. Painful and unnecessary.
Last year, i started joining our club's running club and even bought the club's jersey to get serious with running. The jersey remained unused until now
. I did start to run late last year until a lump poked out on my left ankle early this year that forced me to stop. It was only just last month that I started testing myself again. Ugh! It was torture at first and could hardly reach one kilometer per run. But this week, I feel good enough to go straight pushing for 1-km per run in addition to my cardio routine (boxing and/or group exercise program) or weights program. I am challenging myself to reach the 5-km target for the weekdays. Let's see if I can do it this coming days.

You Need Flu Vaccine For the Cold Weathers
That’s what my nurse-aunt reminded me a long time ago. I used to be uncaring of what type of vaccines I had and when were they administered; but when one of my nurse-aunts lectured us about the advantages of vaccines, I started to take notice. Colds and flu are getting common nowadays because of the cold weather. That is why, last Saturday I convinced my parents to have their flu vaccine. I already took mine last December before I did my Shanghai travel. It was timely because when we got there, the weather was too cold that we had runny nose all the time. So, for those who have yet to take their flu vaccine, you need flu vaccine for the cold weather because this kind of weather make people susceptible to colds, fever and flu.
