The Beach

The beach has always been the place that calms me down. There is something about the sound of the waves, the touch of the sand on my feet, the wind messing up my hair and the vastness of the sea making me feel smaller that somehow make things feel lighter and make my head clearer. These are the reasons why the beach is my all time favorite place to be especially when I am feeling burdened or overstressed.

Nowadays, there are times especially when it gets unbearably hot I wish I lived with my family near the beach as we used to when I was in high school. Back then, it was just so easy to take a dip especially during hot days because the beach was just a few minutes walk away. Back then, it was just a matter of changing clothes to swimwear and we were all set to cool off and have fun unlike nowadays that we usually have to plan out our beach outing.

I remember during summer days in high school that I was at my most tanned or as my mother put it “burned” appearance due to my almost daily beach escapades. Unlike other girls that were busy rummaging through stores looking for whitening lotions and sometimes getting too paranoid avoiding even the lightest touch of sunshine, I relished being well-tanned and would just tend to look more for suntan lotion at the stores to protect myself from being sunburned. Actually, it was my mother who made sure that I had sufficient sun protection because I was usually too carefree and raring to go to the beach that she had to constantly remind me to put on proper sun protection.

Anyway, if I could fulfill my childhood dream of owning a property by the beach before I retire, I shall be one beach-happy soul.
