My favorite food is anything grilled. Grilled chicken, fish, pork and including vegetables like water cabbage and cucumber. When I was a kid, I also tasted grilled dragonflies. My playmate told me before that dragonflies can be grilled and be eaten. So, we went running after dragonflies for a whole afternoon and had grilled dragonfly snack.
This chicken barbecue picture was taken while I was salivating with much hunger. See! I already tore a flesh before taking a picture. This was taken at Mang Inasal – SM Davao. The place is always full and is well-known for their bottomless rice. (Do you think bottomless rice contributed to the country’s rice crisis?) And of course, BBQ eating is not complete without just using one’s hands. Kainan na!!!!
Manny Pacquiao proved to his detractors that he is truly the best pound-for-pound boxer when he knocked out reigning WBC light weight champion on the 9th round today. Pacman dominated Diaz by his speed right from the start. While Diaz look bigger and stronger than our Pambansang Kamao (National Fist), Pacquiao remained fearlessly dominant throughout the fight.
As per post-fight interview with both boxers, Diaz himself said that he could not keep up with Pacquiao’s speed.His promoter even joked that for the next fight, they will get a slower fighter for Diaz. While Diazfought well and hard, Pacquiao always had more counterpunches each Diaz’ offense. Pacquiao himself said that Diaz was the most difficult fighter he had every fought with for being much stronger, forcing him to give him all he got from his arsenal. Pacquiao’s right jab has gotten more lethal as can be seen in the fight. Woot! Woot! You got him, Pacman!
Pacquiao’s coach-trainor Freddie Roach was right all along about his ward about ending the fight somewhere on the 8th-9th round. If it has gotten longer, the fight could’ve gotten ended differently as Diaz was known to get fiercer on the last rounds.
On the side note..Filipinos seemed to stop working literally today. There was light traffic on the streets, people were glued infront of the TV and oh yes, I was pretty grateful that the regular players in the tennis court today were absent. Except for the pulot boys who mostly stayed glued to the TV waiting anticipatingly for the Pacquiao-Diaz fight, there were just me, my friend Anne and some kids playing on the court. We could have stayed longer too but we would rather watch the fight too. For Pacquiao, you made us all proud!

Ngayon, ang ating gobyerno ay gumagawa ng paraan na mapaayos ito sa pamamagitan ng pagpapa-implemento ng pagtuturo ng Ingles sa Matematika, Agham at Ingles. Ngunit, nakaligtaan yata makita ng ating gobyerno ang ibang bansang Asyano. Na kahit hindi masyadong magaling sa pag-Ingles ay mabilis pa rin ang pag-asenso ng kanilang ekonomiya ikumpara sa Pilipinas na mayabang na nagpapakitang maraming dalubhasang magsalita at sumulat ng Igles. Hindi ba isa itong indikasyon na mali ang ating ginagawa? Na pupuwedeng umasenso ang ekonomiya ng isang bansa na gamit ang sariling wika? Na ang kailangan natin ay paghubog ng mga mag-aaral na tunay na nag-iisip at nag-aanalisa at hindi iyong basta-basta nalang ginagaya ang wikang Ingles na parang loro?

There are a lot of problems that beset our country’s educational system nowadays. These include the lack of teachers, schools and books. The books that are being used by the students have a lot of things to be revised and corrected. Thus, it is not surprising to know that lots of people say that our quality of education was already left behind by our Asian neighbors. It is such waste, because during the previous decades, we are one of the Asian countries with very good quality of educational system.
Now, our government is trying to address this situation ay implementing English as the medium of instruction for the subjects: Math, Science and English. But our government must have forgotten to see our Asian neighbors and be able to think; that even if they are not that good in English, they were able to attain economic development compared to the Philippines which is quite proud to show that there are a lot of English experts in speech and writing. Is it not an indication that what we are doing is wrong? That economic development can still be attained by using one’s own language? That what we need is to develop students that are able to think and analyze and not those who just mimic the English language like parrots?

I find this dNeero conversation very interesting as this situation is actually happening out there. People were paying some US citizens to marry them for a time and pay them (term of payment is subject to both parties’ agreement) until the final issuance of the immigrant’s visa. Since this is actually a very lucrative business in the black market, why can’t this be done legally and out in the open. At least, we get to be more upfront and honest about all these transactions and not pretend like it’s not happening when in fact, it is. This could actually be a win-win solution to the US government’s illegal immigrant problems as well as of the illegal immigrants themselves.

Translation: The picture was taken when we were on our way home from Siargao, Surigao. The fisherman was alone at sea. I wondered what was he thinking and what did he feel every time he has to go to work. Work that could endanger him but for the welfare of his family, he has to do it. Did he feel fear and anxiety for himself and his safety while working? Did he wish that he could do something else to prevent him from being exposed to danger? Did he feel sad or happy that he could do something that could feed his family no matter what?
I recently bought a book entitled Rizal Without the Overcoat, a very interesting book about Rizal by well-respected historian, teacher and Philippine Inquirer columnist, Mr. Ambeth Ocampo.To commemorate Jose Rizal’s 147th birthday, here are some interesting facts taken from the book about our national hero that somehow made him more human and “reachable”:
Rizal’s usual breakfast fare is rice, sardinas secas or tuyo and a cup of hot chocolate.
Segunda Katigbak was Rizal’s first love and Rizal’s last love was Josephine Bracken.
Josephine Bracken was an illegitimate child of an Irishman and an unknown Chinese mother..
Jose Rizal was already considered a hero by the Filipinos long before he was executed as evidenced by:
Bonifacio’s declaration of him as honorary President of Katipunan.
In 1898, Emilio Aguinaldo declared December 30 an annual “day of national mourning” in honor of Rizal.
Rizal was stingy (kuripot) and was not afraid to show it although he was not adverse to indulge from time to time.
Rizal was known to be a good cook and his specialty was “pancit”.
Rizal’s elder brother, Paciano Rizal, was a general in the Philippine Revolutionand was instrumental in sending Jose Rizal to Europe to avoid persecution by the Spanish government in the Philippines.
Jose Rizal and his brother, Paciano, had a secret pact to dedicate themselves to helping the country and agreed that only one of them could get married
Jose Rizal could’ve married his cousin-fiancee, Leonora Rivera, if not for the interference done by Rivera’s parents.
We could’ve lost one or two Philippine heroes had Jose Rizal and Antonio Luna pushed through with their duel in Paris. The reason for their quarrel was Nelly Boustead, a pretty mestiza they were both courting.
There are more inside stories about Rizal in the said book and all of them are very informative and interesting; also, the book confirmed the fact that our national hero is indeed a multi-talented man. It is a must read for every Filipino.

It is scary to think that some people could actually hack in to your computer and mess with your files. It violates your privacy and it can actually mess up your life as these perpetrators can actually use your identity. A lot of people have been victimized and I sure pray that I will never be one of them.
University of the Philippines students are trying to help in addressing global warming by pedaling their way to their future. A project of UP Mountaineers, UP Padyak, rented out 40 bikes to UP students to use at P500.00 for the whole school semester. With colorful unique wheel disks, the bike was launched not only to provide alternative transportation for UP students but also to promote concern for the environment and also, to promote healthy lifestyle.
Well-received by the UP students themselves, UP Padyak’s website is swamped with applications. UP administration, in return, helped by designating bike lane in the campus and guarding the bikes.
I sure hope this will encourage under university campuses and communities to adopt this project and implement it on their own to help minimize global warming.
I have seen the bike lanes in four China cities and I believe, bike lanes are spread out all throughout China. I was just amazed as to how they have really standardized the bike as a means of transportation and I truly believe that this could help minimize the global warming.If only, more communities and countries could implement this. The world will be a more comfortable place to live in.

However, before we were colonized by these countries centuries ago, our forefathers have already their own religion, written and spoken language, art, culture and tradition, government, knowledge and values. So, the only legacy the said countries have passed on to us is to make us more fragmented and make us feel more inferior. (I’ve been wondering if there’s some connection why we are a nation crazy for whitening lotions, whitening soaps, whitening underarm deodorant, whitening..whitening…whitening..)
3. Who is your favorite Philippine national hero?
I am for Andres Bonifacio. Yes, I admire Dr. Jose Rizal but he was more for the passive stance when what was already called for was to take active participation in fighting for our country’s freedom. It was a sad irony in the Philippine history that Andres Bonifacio and his brother died in the hands of his countrymen, the very people he was fighting for.
4. What is your stand re: the debate between June 12 vs July 4 as the official Independence day date?
June 12. That's the date Aguinaldo declared independence for the Philippines. July 4 is the date that US government officially recognized and declared Philippines’ Independence (and I couldn’t care less for that).
5. Who do you think is the next big threat to our country's freedom, if ever? Too many to think of, but the most basic ones are overpopulation and poverty. With it, the nation’s development is painfully constrained and easily abused and used by unscrupulous, soulless politician-crocs disguising as statesmen who sell their greedy souls to any foreign highest bidder for huge kickbacks.

Sometimes I ponder if Filipinos are really free. It seems that we have lost giving importance to our country and are just content to sell our country to the foreigners in the name of economic progress. Even the right date to celebrate our Independence Day has been changed because of “holiday economics” as led by our beloved President and the geniuses in Malacañang. Try asking ordinary Filipinos especially the youth and you will see only a few of them knows the proper answer onwhat is the meaning of the Independence Day and the circumstances behind it.
Are we content on just buying flaglets in the streets every Independence Day? Can we not give importance to the people who died for our freedom yesterday and now? What will happen to the youth who knows more about the newest cellphone models than the true meaning of Independence Day celebration.

I had so much fun watching this movie with my friends the other day so I thought I would like to share this conversation from dNeero. Yes, this is a chick flick but it is more than that. It is about friendship, love, knowing who you and what you want and well, it's also a very funny movie. You should really watch it.
I am still single so let me talk about my father. My father is a disciplinarian and is not the showy type of guy but what he lacks in showing his affection, he made it up for his actions. I have always said that if not for his discipline when I was still young, I do not where I would have ended up. If most guys would rather wake up late with the breakfast waiting at the table for them, it is the reverse scenario in our household. He is now semi-retired and his usual routine is to wake up in the early mornings to prepare breakfast for all of us and prepare baon for his two grandchildren. After we all have gone to work and school, he would do our laundry and clean up the house. He actually gave up his early morning jogs years ago to do this routine to give more sleeping time to my mother. He is our dog runner (we have 3 dogs), reluctant repairman, all around assistant in the house and a Wowwowwee fanatic. So, Pa..Happy Father’s Day and thank you for all the things you have done for us.

Have you seen dolphins in the wild? For sure, a lot of you have seen them only in theme parks, animal shows and zoos while dancing, gliding and flying across the air upon commands from their trainers. Dolphins are beautiful, exciting and funny. That's just a part of it because when you see dolphins in the wild, the experience is so exhilarating and awesome. For me, I could not help but pity the ones who were captured for the shows because while they may be well-taken care of, they do not have the freedom to do what they were born with..to be free and wild, frolic in the waters and be with their families.
The pictures were taken while we were dolphin watching in the waters of Bohol Sea somewhere between Pamilacan and Balicasag Islands, two islands well-known not only for their pristine-white beaches but also for their superb, world-class diving sites.

We were actually expecting to see whales too; but they were not there. The dolphins more than made up for it though. They frolicked and played and made it very difficult for us to catch them on camera. We've seen some who actually chased the boats. And well, I was too excited to see them that I forgot to set my digicam into the multishot mode. Well, next time I will do better.
