Sunday Stealing#35 Harriet's Choice: The Disney Meme
Today we are honored to have our very first guest host! Harriet, from the world famous Harriet and Friends blog picked today's victim. Harriet is also the host of Monday Mayhem a very clever meme. Harriet picked a meme from a blogger named Roger Owen Green from Ramblin' with Roger. He states he saw it at both SamuraiFrog and Jaquandor. But, it was probably stolen there as well. So, of course, that will be as far as we go. Tracing back our theft's thieves might take some time. Link back to us at Sunday Stealing!
Cheers to all of us thieves!

SSS Membership Payments
Early this month, I tried paying my SSS (Social Security System) membership thru one of the RCPI branches in the mall. After paying, I asked curiously the teller on how many weeks or months should I wait for the payments to get posted on my file. I was totally taken aback with the response. The teller told me confidently that it would only take 2 to 3 days for the payments made thru RCPI branches. Faster than making payments thru the SSS branches nationwide.
Now, SSS membership payments made thru their branches take about at least a month to get posted. Worse, it would take at least 3-6 months if payments were made thru banks. So, the confident reply from the RCPI teller is just short of very unbelievable for me. Intrigued, I decided to check her reply.
On the third day since I made my payment, I registered with www.sss.gov.ph. However, it would take about 24 hours to get the enrolment confirmation. So, I relogged in on the 4th day and happily accessed my file. Sure enough, the payment I made a few days ago thru RCPI was already posted. Now, that's fast!
So, if you're looking for a fast posting of your SSS membership payments, try your RCPI branches and verify the payment postings in less than a week. If only all goverment agencies' services are like this...

Litratong Pinoy#86 Husay (Ability)
While I watched these ballet dancers from the Ballet Philippines, I could not help but be amazed of their dancing abilities. All of them looked so young and yet, they looked so beautiful and strong while they performed.

My American Idol Faves
I watched the replay telecast of American Idol tonight. There were twelve ladies for tonight and tomorrow night will be the men's turn.
I kinda like the quirkiness of some of the lady performers and so, it's not surpising that my faves among the ladies right now have the quirky quality. Here they are:
1. Didi Benami - she's pretty and she has this smokey voice. It'll be interesting to see what she can do with other repertoire.
2. Siobhan Magnus - Girl got pipes. She sounds like a torch singer and gee, she's still young but she's already awesome.
3. Crystal Bowersox - the dreadlocked, harmonica-playing single mother. She has this tough persona and her Alanis Morrisette rendition was good but I think, she could've done better. It'll be interesting if she would take on Simon Cowell's advice to try a David Bowie song someday.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that these three girls would go all the way to the top.

Ruby Tuesday#39 Pretty Girls In Red
While I always get mesmerized watching ice dancing on the Winter Olympics, I still love watching Kadayawan Festival's street dancing which happens every 3rd week of August.
I really love the Kadayawan Festival for its color, vibrance and positivity. This picture was taken during the Kadayawan Festival's Indak-Indak sa Kadalanan (streetdancing) that showcased the dances of the indigenous tribes. Participants were from public schools that came from all over Mindanao.

Music Monday#43 And I Love You So by Don McLean
This song was used as a soundtrack in a recently concluded TV koreanovela and somehow it keeps playing in my mind. It was sang by Regine Velasquez but I prefer this song by Don McLean.
AND I LOVE YOU SO
And I love you so.
The people ask me how,
How I've lived till now.
I tell them I don't know.
I guess they understand
How lonely life has been.
But life began again
The day you took my hand.
And, yes, I know how lonely life can be.
The shadows follow me, and the night wont set me free.
But I don't let the evening get me down
Now that you're around me.
And you love me, too.
Your thoughts are just for me;
You set my spirit free.
I'm happy that you do.
The book of life is brief
And once a page is read,
All but love is dead.
That is my belief.
And, yes, I know how loveless life can be.
The shadows follow me, and the night won't set me free.
But I dont let the evening bring me down
Now that you're around me.
And I love you so.
The people ask me how,
How I've lived till now.
I tell them, "i don't know."

PhotoHunt#78 Cuddly
We saw this dog standing by the apartment building each morning while we were in Hongkong last year. The building was right beside the Chinese restaurant where we usually ate our breakfast. Not sure if it's a male or female but she was really cuddly and gentle. She would stand quietly on that same spot every morning while looking at people rushing by. We decided to get near and touched her and she just wagged her tail and watched us.

Tiger Woods’ Press Conference
There will be a Tiger Woods' press conference today. I wonder how will it go. I found a live stream link for it but I am now too sleepy to watch it.
After his sex scandal happened sometime ago, Tiger Woods withdrew from the public eye. A good thing, I must say because I was already getting tired hearing about his dalliances. But considering that today's scheduled public statement is going to be the first one after that scandal, I am curious how will the media take him. It's not really a public conference because the media are not allowed to throw questions at him. . From what I read about other golf players' reactions regarding Tiger Woods' press conference today, it seems a lot are really not happy about it.

Men And The Needles
I can only count on the fingers of my one hand the number of men I know who are not intimidated with needles. The rest, well…it’s either they would bawl their tonsils out (like the one guy I have seen this past weekend) once they get pricked or they would give all the reasons they can think of just to put about several feet away between them and the teeny-weeny needle.
What is it with the needles or injections that find men breathless, pale and worse, whiny? Sure, women do get intimidated with the needles too but hey, they don’t seem to whine more than men. I find it quite amusing. Whatever happened to machismo and such when the mere mention of needles and/or injections make the male species swoon breathless and look helpless. I wonder if there’s some kind of study about this. It would be interesting to know.

Music Monday#42 Tonight's The Night by Rod Stewart
Billboard voted Olivia Newton John's Physical as the sexiest song from all the songs in 1950s until present. Although I like that song, I like the 2nd voted sexiest song much much more. It's Rod Stewart's Tonight's The Night. It's kinda sleazy but still sexy :) I wanted an earlier and more original version of this song as the later renditions of Rod Stewart changed somewhat. Here's its youtube video (video: valhalla45) and I apologize for its not-so-clear video. Nonetheless, Rod Stewart performed this song quite well.

2010 Winter Olympics Is Here
The 2010 Winter Olympics is here! Thank goodness, there's TV. I really am not a TV person but when it comes to major events like the 2010 Winter Olympics, TV is a friend. Of course, there's no substitute for being there physically but then again, most of the sport competitions are being held in different locations that watching the TV is actually an advantage.
I am curious to see the 2010 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony most of all. The Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony was the most extravagant and the most beautiful one that I had ever seen so it's inevitable that the succeeding Olympics would be compared to that.
Another thingy, have you seen Yahoo's logo? There's somebody snowboarding around yahoo's logo. It's cool!

There Was No Help
I was appalled to read the news about a teenage girl getting beaten up right beside the guards manning the Seattle bus tunnel. The incident happened last month and caused a stir when the incident was caught on the surveillance video.
How can these guards let the girl get beaten up right there infront of them? They were saying it’s against their contract but how can their conscience work that way? The girl went near them to avoid getting hurt thinking that she’d be safer with the guards around. Wrong! She got hurt bad and there was no help. Those guards were useless. What were they for there, I wonder? Just pose around and get seen my the surveillance so they can get paid?

Litratong Pinoy#84 Iyo (Yours)
Think of this house we are constructing as yours so that we can give happiness and hope for those who will reside in this house, that's what the guy from Gawad Kalinga said.
We were about to start constructing houses as part of the Gawad Kalinga project. We need to do it well, make the houses beautiful and sturdy even with the limited resources we had to construct them. The outcome was good especially those houses that the lady-volunteers painted together. But, there was one house that the supervisor ended up scratching his head because of their eagerness to make the house strong, they thickened the cement plaster on the walls. They had to fix it before they were able to finish it.
Pilipino:

Music Monday#41 Michael Jackson's This Is It
Michael Jackson's This Is It biofilm is really, really awesome. It showed not only his multifaceted talents but also how he interacted with people around him.
I really like MJ's song with the same title and it's good that the radio stations keep playing this nowadays.

This is the continuation of the last week's questions for this meme.
Cheers to all of us thieves!
Sunday Stealing: The Pretentious Blogging Meme 2
12. How many drafts of potential blog posts do you have right now?
None but I do write down the topics that cross my mind. Just a few words to remind me later when I actually do my post.
13. In what medium do you draft your posts?
I usually do the post straight away without drafts but there are times I draft it on MS Word.
14. How often do you completely scratch or delete drafts or blog post ideas?
Hmm...not very often.
15. If you had to leave your blog in your will to another blogger, who would you choose?
Nobody. It's my personal journal and my thoughts and opinions are in it so I can't just will it to anybody.

PhotoHunt#76 Average
The average bread shape in Siargao, Surigao is round. You can see a partially eaten bread called pan de pugon (so called as it was cooked in a homemade oven. Oven is called pugon in the local language) as being held by a friend.
This is my entry for:

But the not-so average shape of bread is the one being held by me. In recognition to the world-famous surfing destination in the Philippines, Siargao, the bread is shaped like a surfboard and aptly called Pan de Surf by the locals.
And how does a "pugon" look like? Surprise..surprise..this is the homemade oven that produces the famous Pan de Surf or the round-shaped Pan de Pugon of Siargao. Wood Stove with burning coconut husks on top to bake those yummy breads.
Better make your reservations early because they bake on limited numbers only.

What Does Marites Means?
It's been awhile since I've done this. I have decided to see what my nickname means and I got amused with the result because there are a lot of truth in there. Here goes..
You Are Powerful and Determined |
You are confident, self assured, and capable. You are not easily intimidated. You master any and all skills easily. You don't have to work hard for what you want. You make your life out to be exactly how you want it. And you'll knock down anyone who gets in your way! You are usually the best at everything ... you strive for perfection. You are confident, authoritative, and aggressive. You have the classic "Type A" personality. You are wild, crazy, and a huge rebel. You're always up to something. You have a ton of energy, and most people can't handle you. You're very intense. You definitely are a handful, and you're likely to get in trouble. But your kind of trouble is a lot of fun. You tend to be pretty tightly wound. It's easy to get you excited... which can be a good or bad thing. You have a lot of enthusiasm, but it fades rather quickly. You don't stick with any one thing for very long. You have the drive to accomplish a lot in a short amount of time. Your biggest problem is making sure you finish the projects you start. You are a seeker. You often find yourself restless - and you have a lot of questions about life. You tend to travel often, to fairly random locations. You're most comfortable when you're far away from home. You are quite passionate and easily tempted. Your impulses sometimes get you into trouble. You are friendly, charming, and warm. You get along with almost everyone. You work hard not to rock the boat. Your easy going attitude brings people together. At times, you can be a little flaky and irresponsible. But for the important things, you pull it together. You are the total package - suave, sexy, smart, and strong. You have the whole world under your spell, and you can influence almost everyone you know. You don't always resist your urges to crush the weak. Just remember, they don't have as much going for them as you do. |

There's No Shame
As I watched former Philippine president Joseph Estrada on TV talking about new advertisement that supposedly will show his serious side for his presidential bid campaign, I could not help but be amazed on how can he be so proud on running again for the same office. He was convicted of plunder for crying out loud!
One would think that because of his plunder case, people would stay away from him, would not think of voting for him. Sadly, I have seen hordes of people cheering him on showing their support. I could not help but wonder what has happened to a lot of my countrymen. They have forgotten the charges against Estrada. They have forgotten that public money was used for his own disposal while a lot of them cannot even get by a day with full meals.
Why so forgiving? Why so trusting when the courts have already proven that he's not trustworthy?
Erap's constant answer is he wants to help the Filipino people. Well, that is one stale line I don't want to hear from any politicians because almost always, they first help themselves before they even remember that they need to help the people. I really hope that come election day this May, the Filipino people shall vote more wisely.

Litratong Pinoy#83 Akin (Mine)
I wish this is mine, I told this to myself when I saw this beach. There are no people around, clean surroundings, quiet, beautiful and far from the civilization. It must be nice to have my own island or even just a beach. I wish.
Pilipino:
Sana.

The Cat Who Knows When Death Is Coming
Yes, you heard it right. A cat can sense when death is coming. His name is Oscar. He lives in a nursing home in US. The doctors and staff realized Oscar has this gift when he started staying and curling up to sleep with the residents who were about to die. By far, Oscar was able to “predict” 50 deaths according to this news.
It is truly amazing but when I think about it, animals are quite sensitive. How else can they sense the coming of earthquakes or people who’re about to have an epilepsy episode or about to have stroke. What is just awesome for me is that while we take our pets or even animals for granted, they can actually feel us and even know more about us. Sadly, that doesn’t hold true to most humans even the supposedly humans who’re closer to us.

Ruby Tuesday#36 Playroom At the Office
This was taken inside the playroom of one of our branches. So far, this branch has the most well-laid out building plan among the branches I have visited. Aside from its cubicled office area, it has a library, playroom, gym, prayer room and some balcony space for some breather should the office walls get too claustrophobic.
There were about ten kids staying inside the playroom and they were being taken care of by two nannies at that time. I find it quite refreshing to see that an office could actually provide this kind of facility for their employees which helps lessen the burden especially for the working mothers with young kids.
Go here for more.

Music Monday#40 When A Man Loves A Woman by Percy Sledge
I first heard of this song from a Meg Ryan-Andy Garcia starrer with the same title. I loved the movie and it made me wish that I could find somebody like Andy Garcia's character. Anyway, I'll always love this song by Percy Sledge.
